Doroleta Fay Huntley, 79
Doroleta Fay Huntley, 79, of Grangeville, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2007 at her Grangeville home due to lung cancer.
Doroleta was born August 31, 1927 in Clyde, California to Earl and Maudess Pratt.
Doroleta had numerous occupations during her lifetime. In the 1940’s she spent time on Rabbit Point and Jack Mountain lookouts. When she was 9 years old she got her first pony, which led to a lifetime of breaking and training horses; finishing out and training her last horse at the age of 65. In addition, she spent time working as a clothing model, long haul truck driver, operating restaurants, bars and auction houses, cattle ranching, hard rock mining, and a stunt rider. It was her stunt riding that allowed her to double for Loretta Young in the movie “Rachel and the Stranger”. Of all things she did in life, she liked being a housewife the most.
Marriages to Joe Price, Sub Woods, and Chester Nuxoll all ended in divorce. She married James Huntley on May 20, 1966 and they lived in Grangeville and Dixie ever since.
Doroleta is survived by her husband Jim; her son Lindley Woods of White Bird; stepson James Huntley of Aurora, Colorado; stepdaughters Yvonne Schriber of Bend, Oregon and Betty Writer of Elmira, Oregon, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wesley Pratt; stepson, Wilbur Woods, and an infant daughter.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Doroleta’s life will be held at her Dixie cabin at a future date.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Syringa General Hospital’s Hospice program.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville. Send condolences to family at Blackmerfuneralhome.com.
