Marietta Owens, 76

GRANGEVILLE: Marietta Owens, 76 of Grangeville passed away Sunday, January 23, 2005 at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane.
Marietta was born December 18, 1928 at Grangeville a daughter of W.B. and Belva Terwillegar Huffman. She attended schools in Grangeville graduating from Grangeville High School in 1947. She married Harry Owens on December 7, 1947 at Grangeville. They moved to Lewiston for a short time before returning to Grangeville. In 1951 they moved to Texas and lived in Florida and Georgia while Harry served in the military. Following Harry’s discharge from duty in 1955 they returned to Grangeville where she went to work at the Idaho County Courthouse in the Auditors office. She retired as chief deputy assessor for Idaho County in 1993.
She was a member of the Grangeville Christian Church and served as choir director for many years. She was also a member of the Malac Temple, Daughters of the Nile at Lewiston and the Mizpah Rebekah Lodge at Grangeville. She also belonged to the Mt. Queen Chapter No. 11 Order of Eastern Star at Grangeville. She held most local offices and several state offices for these organizations. She also did volunteer in the Grangeville area having volunteered her time at Syringa General Hospital, Camp Fire Girls, Boy Scouts and Jobs Daughters. She also sang with the Camas Choristers.
She liked to sing, shop, square dance, pick huckleberries and especially liked to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Harry at the family home in Grangeville. Her children, Mike Owens of Grangeville, Sandi and Richard Wheeling of Boise, Leann Owens and Kurt Spracher of Idaho Falls, ID, her brother, Wayne and Clarissa Huffman of Grangeville, grandchildren, Sarah Owens, Dylan Owens, Jeremy Yuill, Jamie Spracher, J.C. Spracher, Jeff Spracher, Tyler Wheeling, Laura Wheeling and Ryan Wheeling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Randy, and two sisters, Wanda Miller and Willetta Welker.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Grangeville Christian Church with Pastor Harold Gott officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery, Grangeville. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville.
