Helen Delores Walker, 87










LEWISTON: Helen Delores Walker, 87, of Grangeville passed away Monday, January 31, 2005 at the Life Care Center of Lewiston.

Helen was born November 8, 1917 at Green Valley, Nebraska a daughter of Clyde and Helen Irene Colamer Babcock. She attended schools in Lincoln, Nebraska and graduated from high school in 1934. Following her education she moved to Weiser, Idaho and she married Sydney W. Walker on March 6, 1940 at Baker City, Oregon. They lived in Huntington and Nyssa, Oregon and Weiser and Payette before moving to Grangeville in the early 1950’s. She was a bookkeeper for their family business including a gas station and sanitation company. She was also a professional seamstress and sewed for several companies, organizations and individuals in the Grangeville area.

She enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Arizona. She also liked to cook and was affectionately known as the “Cookie Lady”.

She was a life member of the Soroptimist Club in Grangeville and a former secretary of the Grangeville Extension Club. She also was a member of the Grangeville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Sydney of Grangeville, her son and daughter in law, Butch and Dorothy Walker of Grangeville, her daughter and son in law, Jean and William Heizer of Baker City, Oregon. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Monica Walker, Marietta Holman, B.J. Walker, Brent Ricks, her great granddaughter, Hailey Uhlenkott and two brothers, Clyde Babcock of Colorado and Dick Babcock of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Willard and Marty and a sister Micki.

Services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Blackmer Funeral Home Grangeville. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville.
