Kenneth M. Meyer, 79
COTTONWOOD: Kenneth M. Meyer, 79 of Grangeville passed away Friday, April 22, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Cottonwood.
Ken was born October 27, 1925 at Fenn, ID to Frances and Melissa Conant Meyer. He attended Fenn Grade School and graduated from Grangeville High School in 1943. During his school years he was active in the Fenn 4H Club and played in the high school band. He served in the US Navy from 1944 - 1946 and attended boot camp and radio school at Farragut. He served aboard the USS Dixie, a destroyer tender, in the South Pacific including the Ulithi Islands, Philippines and China. He attended the University of Idaho for 3 years studying general agriculture. He married Dorothy Fischer on August 22, 1948. He drove logging and grain trucks and he and his brother farmed and raised cattle in the Fenn area until he retired in 1995.
Ken was a member of the Charity Grange #294 for over 50 years, and has been Master of the local Grange since 1988. He was also a member of the National and State Grange as well as a member of Idaho Lewis County Pomona Grange. He served as State Grange Overseer for 8 years. He was a member of Mount Idaho Lodge #9 AF&AM for nearly 50 years, was a Prairie Chapter DeMolay Dad for 5 years, a director at Union Warehouse for 18 years, a member of the Solar Flying Club for 10 years, a member of the Idaho County Planning Commission for 5 years, a member of the VFW and a Life Member of the NRA.
He enjoyed snow-catting, RV’ing, and square dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Grangeville, a daughter and son in law, Diane and Ed Obermeyer of South Beach, Oregon, a son, Roger Meyer of Vernonia, Oregon, grandsons, Shawn and Brian Obermeyer, granddaughter, Rhiannon Meyer, great granddaughter, Michaele Obermeyer, a brother Jack Meyer of Fenn, Idaho and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Evalyn Johnson.
