Ellen E. Mae Cash, 95



Grangeville: Ellen Esther Mae Cash, age 95, a resident of Grangeville, died Friday, June 17, 2005 at Syringa General Hospital where she has been a patient for the past 3 weeks.

Ellen was born on March 27, 1910 at Mission Creek near Culdesac to Edward and Luella Chase Denham. She attended school in Lapwai.

When she was 12 the family moved to Grangeville after the death of her father. In 1927 she and Walter Schenck were married. They moved to Orofino. While in Orofino, their two daughters Betty and Ruth were born. Mr. Schenck was killed in a road grader accident and she and her daughters moved back to Grangeville in 1929.

She and Keith Cash were married at Grangeville on February 7, 1931. To this marriage was born one daughter, Mary Ellen. They lived in Grangeville until 1940 when they purchased a ranch southwest of town where they did some farming and raised cattle. Mr. Cash died in 1989 and Ellen continued to live on the ranch until last fall when she moved to town to live with her daughter Mary.

She enjoyed her flower gardens and baking bread for her friends. The last few years she looked forward to her trip to town everyday in her blue and white Waggoner with her dog Sadie at her side. She never forgot any of her families and friends birthdays and Christmas.

She is survived by her three daughters; Ruth Moody and Mary Thompson of Grangeville and Betty Gunter of Clearwater, Idaho. Two sisters; Mary Jane McPherson of Farmington, New Mexico and Alice Niles of Perkins, Oklahoma. Ten grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren. Seven brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Blackmer Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Lusby of the Mt. Shadows Baptist Church. Visitation hours will be from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Prairie View Cemetery. A potluck dinner will follow at the Senior Center in Grangeville.
