William Wayne Huffman, 81
GRANGEVILLE: W. Wayne Huffman, 81, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at Syringa General Hospital in Grangeville, Idaho of congestive heart failure and was in declining health for the past year.
He was born August 8, 1924 near Winona, Idaho in the Red Rock area on the family farm to William Burl and Belva Austa Terwillegar Huffman. At the age of 6 he and his family moved to a farm east of Grangeville. He attended Grangeville schools riding horse back to school in the spring and fall and in the winter months his father took his sisters and him to school by horse and sleigh. He graduated from Grangeville High School in 1943. In 1944 he was inducted into the US Army during WWII and was transferred to the Army Air Force where he served as a crew chief on a C-54 transport plane. In 1946 he was honorably discharged and returned to Grangeville where he worked on the family farm and attended Lewis Clark Normal School now known as Lewis Clark State College.
On October 24, 1948 he married Clarissa Weber at Grangeville. The couple farmed and raised Hereford cattle in the Fenn area where he lived for the following 56 1/2 years.
He enjoyed spending time & visiting with his family, granddaughter and friends. He loved the outdoors, traveling, camping and rodeos as well as music.
He was a member of Charity Grange #294 for 61 years, Past Commander of American Legion Post #37, Past President of the Snowhaven Ski Association in the mid 1960's, Idaho Lewis County Cattle Association, Idaho Grain Producers Association, Western Pea and Lentil Grower Association, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder numerous times as well as a choir member. He also donated a plot of land each year to the U of I Agricultural Research Department for the development of new soft white wheat varieties for the last 12 or 15 years.
He is survived by his wife Clarissa, a daughter Deborah Stoops and her husband Ernie of Des Moines, Washington, a son Darcy Huffman of Fenn, Idaho, a granddaughter Allison Stoops attending college in Austin, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his three sisters, Willetta Welker, Wanda Miller and Marietta Owens.
The service will be held Friday September 16, 2005 at 11am at the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville with Pastor Alan Broadwell, Trinity Lutheran Church, Grangeville, Idaho and Pastor Dudley Nolting, Concordia Lutheran Church, Pullman, Washington officiating. Internment will follow at the Denver Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville.
