William Carroll Cox, 85

GRANGEVILLE: William Carroll Cox, 85 of Grangeville went to rest on May 17, 2006 from causes related to cancer.

Bill was born December 19, 1920, at Kendrick, Idaho the oldest son of Carroll and Grace Cox. He attended grade school on American Ridge near Kendrick and graduated from Kendrick High School in 1938. Following his education he worked on the family farm until he entered the military in the winter of 1942. He spent his entire tour of duty in the South Pacific under the command of General McArthur and was honorably discharged in 1946.

After returning home he worked for various farms in the Kendrick area and then moved to the Ferdinand area and helped on the family farm. This is where he met the love of his life Bettie Utt and were married in October of 1947. They were blessed with one son, Billy, born in the summer of 1948.

Bill worked for various farmers on the prairie until they moved to Cottonwood where he worked for Vade Spencer at the Cottonwood Sales Yard.

In 1956 he went to work for the Guy Sherwin ranch and worked and lived there until the spring of 1962. They then moved into Grangeville where he was employed by Union Warehouse until he retired in 1986.

Bill loved to work with wood and did many projects for the Elks.

He was a life member of the Grangeville Elks Lodge and Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Grangeville.

He is survived by his wife Bettie, one son Billy both of Grangeville, one grandson, Shawn and his wife Kristi and great granddaughter Brittany of Middleton, Idaho, his sisters, Lela Little of Yuma, AZ, Alma Nickel of Kamiah, Merna Heath of Grangeville and Patty Kaschmitter of Cottonwood, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Scotty and Norman and his parents.

A rosary will be held Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church followed by a funeral rite at 11:30 a.m. Father Bradley Neely will be officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Denver Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, May 19, 2006 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School or to a charity of donor’s choice.
