Yoshino Stewart, 76
Yoshino Stewart, 76, of Grangeville, passed away Friday, May 12, 2006 at Syringa General Hospital after a short bout with cancer.
She was born March 13, 1930 in Tokyo, Japan to Mr. and Mrs. Komai.
She met her husband Ralph Stewart in Tokyo while he was stationed in Japan. They were married on February 18, 1956 and a year and a half later, Johnny was born. In 1957, Ralph was transferred to the states and was stationed in Chicago. Kathy was born while they were there. In October 1959, Ralph was discharged from the military and the family moved to Grangeville where they now reside.
Yoshino worked numerous jobs throughout the area. She worked at Summerville’s and The Crossroads to name a few, plus many others. She was recognized as the “little Japanese lady in Grangeville”. She may have been little, but she was spunky and never backed down to anyone. People would show up at her house on New Year’s Day to partake in a Japanese Feast, as New Year’s Day was a big celebration in Japan.
Yo liked to cook, do various crafts such as knitting, crocheting, origami (paper folding) and ceramics. She enjoyed visiting with her many friends and going to Boise to spend time with her kids and grandkids. Anytime anyone was in need, Yo was there to help cook and clean or just visit with them. She had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed and will live on in our hearts always. GOOD-BYE MOM….
Yo is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Ralph (Sonny) Stewart at their home in Grangeville; son John and wife Kathy of Meridian and their two kids, Jason of Portland, Oregon and Jennifer of Meridian; daughter Kathy and her husband Bill and their son Billy of Carson City and Kyla, Kayla, Cody and Chad of Nampa. She is also survived by three brothers and three sisters in Japan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Kauzko, and her granddaughter Shawna.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grangeville Christian Church with Pastor Harold Gott officiating. Memorials may be made to Syringa Hospital Hospice of Grangeville.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville. Send condolences to the family at Blackmerfuneralhome.com.
