Sheila Kaye “Shi” Niemi, 72, of Grangeville, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.
Shi was born January 22, 1937, to Kenneth and Odette Rains in Wahoo, Nebraska. She was raised by her step-mother, Vivian, after her mother’s death.
She grew up in Battle Ground, Washington, and attended Battle Ground High School. She graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services. She was employed as a counselor by the Moses Lake School District, The Idaho County School District, and the State of Idaho.
On August 22, 1966, she married the love of her life, Brice Niemi. They moved to Grangeville the same year. There, she helped him in his veterinary practice for many years.
Shi was always very active in her community with things such as Campfire Girls, politics, counseling, Elks Lodge, as well as many other activities. She had a love for life and looked at everything as an adventure. She touched everyone that she met.
She is survived by her husband, Brice, at their Grangeville home; as well as many, many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the Blackmer Funeral Home, 305 N. Mill Street, in Grangeville, with Pastor Harold Gott officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery in Grangeville. Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 14, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
