Marvin Ward Mortenson, 72, of Elk Lake Road, New Meadows, Idaho, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at his home, with his wife, Gloria, by his side.
 

Marv was born November 21, 1936, the son of Elder Wilhelm and Sylvia Mae (Ross) Mortenson. He was the youngest of nine children: Wilma, Bernard, Donald, Raymond, Alice, Jack,  Billy, Carolyn and Katie.  

 

Marv is survived by his wife Gloria; two daughters, Michele Stratton and Jayma Melroy, and a son, Christin Mortenson; a sister, Katie Knight of Riggins; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Lindsay, Hanna, James, Auburn, Caleb and Karlyn.
 
Marv spent 27 years in personnel management with I.T.T. He and his wife spent 5 years as independent business owners with the Western Auto franchise. The remainder of his career was spent as a state training officer with Aflac Insurance.

Marv maintained a commitment to serving others everywhere he resided.  Helping with food banks, vocational teaching to the disabled, and church leadership.  Most recently, he worked diligently on the Canyon Community Coalition C.A.B.S. committee to secure transportation for the City of Riggins. He was continuing to pursue his dream of a Community Center for Riggins, working with state officials in Boise.
 
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at the Salmon River Community Church, 1102 South Main in Riggins on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., Mountain Time.   

 

Services are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville.
