Dee Dee Barker, 80, of Grangeville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 7, 2010, at the home of her daughter in Grangeville due to a stroke. 

 

She was born as Dora Dean Kirk on December 13, 1929 at Hartville, Missouri to Francis and Elsie Kirk. Her family moved to Baker, Oregon by train when she was 14. She married the love of her life, Franklin George Barker, on September 27, 1947 at Baker.  She and her husband lived in Pondosa, Oregon; Pendleton, Oregon and moved to Grangeville in 1960. She worked 32 years at the former Idaho County Nursing Home as a CNA and shared her home with many of the residents for holiday and birthday dinners.  She enjoyed car rides to look for wildlife of any kind, enjoyed the mountains and picking huckleberries, as well as playing pinochle and bingo.  

 

She was a member of the Mountain Shadows Baptist Church and Senior Citizens. 

 

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jim Salisbury of Grangeville; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by a brother; her parents; husband; and a son, Wayne. 

 

Services will be held Friday, January 8, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Blackmer Funeral Home with burial to follow at Prairie View Cemetery in Grangeville. 

 

Services are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville. 

 

Memorials can be made to Syringa Hospital Hospice or Animal Ark.
