Helen E. Hershner Foster, 89

Helen Foster was born in Williamsport, Ohio, May 23, 1918 to the late Glenn A. and Effie F. (Keyes) Hershner and passed away in Lewiston, Idaho, November 23, 2007.

Helen attended a one room school in Williamsport and finished her education at Johnsville, graduating in 1936. Helen was on the girls’ basketball team, while in high school, and was proud of their county championship win.

Helen spent most of her life in Morrow County, until a little over a year ago when she moved to Idaho to be near her daughter, Sandee.

Helen married Stanley C. Foster on March 17, 1940. They celebrated 56 years together, Stan passed away on May 9, 1996.

Helen enjoyed playing piano, crocheting, sewing, playing cards, cooking, traveling and reading. She was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of North Woodbury, where she devoted her time as Sunday school teacher, Church Council member, and generally helping wherever needed.

Helen is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sandee and Jim Wolfinger of Grangeville, Idaho; three grandchildren, Tara, Amanda, and Jared all of Idaho; three great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard D. and Mary Ellen Hershner of Bellville; a sister-in-law, Amy Hershner of Mt. Gilead; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; cousins, and church friends.

Besides her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her brothers, Leslie (Bill) Hershner and Robert G. Hershner, and one great-granddaughter, Haily.

Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association, St. John’s Lutheran Church of North Woodbury, or Guardian Angel Homes in Lewiston, Idaho.
Calling hours will be Thursday, November 29, 2007, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Craven’s Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead.

Funeral Services will be Friday, November 30, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at Craven’s Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead. Burial will follow at Shauck Cemetary in Johnsville, Ohio.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville.

Helen K. Parks, 80

Helen Parks, 80, of Lewiston and formerly of Grangeville, went home to be with God and her husband, Warren Parks, on Sunday, November 18, 2007. She passed away at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston after a short illness. She will be greatly missed.

Helen was born on September 7, 1927, in Harrison, Idaho to Guy and Julia Damiano Fuoca. With her parents and sister, Linda, Helen moved to Spokane, where she attended school and graduated from John R. Rogers High School in 1947. In Spokane she attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

On June 2, 1960, Helen married the love of her life, Warren Parks, in Grangeville. They lived in Grangeville all of their married lives, enjoying the cool summer months in Grangeville, then snow birding it to Arizona during the winter months. Helen worked many book keeping jobs throughout her life including many years at the Union Warehouse.

Her beloved husband passed away on December 22, 2003, leaving a huge void in her life, being that they had no children together.

She enjoyed crocheting, craftwork, and needle point, spending many years creating beautiful works, which she donated to the United Methodist Women’s annual bazaar. At the time of her death, Helen had boxes of finished crafts, partially completed projects, and raw materials waiting for her creative touch. Helen enjoyed socializing with members of the community and the Methodist Church, and was truly grateful for all of the help she had been given over the years.

In July 2007, with the help of her good friend, Marilyn Forsmann, Helen moved to the Royal Plaza retirement center in Lewiston. She was grateful for the good care and friends she enjoyed in her time there.

She is survived by Warren’s children from a previous marriage, Ward Parks, Pearl Ann Hatch, Randy Parks, Michael Parks, and Danny Parks. She is also survived by her church family and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Please join us to share stories and memories in the celebration of Helen’s life on Tuesday, December 4, 2007. Graveside services will be at held at 12:30 at Prairie View Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 at the Grangeville United Methodist Church. A luncheon will follow, provided by the United Methodist Women at the Grangeville Church.
