Earl E. Whited, 66








Local pastor, Earl E. Whited, died 10:00 a.m. January 23, 2005, at Grangeville
Health and Rehabilitation in Grangeville from complications from an April
30, 2002, heart attack which happened while visiting Las Vegas, Nevada. So many
x-rays of the heart produced a lung cancer which took his life. He was born
in Ogden Dunes, Michigan, located on the shores of Lake Michigan, August 8, 1938.
He is survived by his life's partner, Ellie Ahern, Kooskia; sons, Eric
Whited from Cleveland, Ohio, and Kurt Whited from Boston, Massachusetts.
He was valedictorian of his 1956 class from Northwestern Military Academy.
His motto was "give me a ball any ball." He excelled in football and
basketball.
He was recruited into the Department of Defense at 18. He served his country
for 46 years while also working for U. S. Steel as a labor negotiator, in
Holiday Inns International Hotels as a labor relations executive, in
Coca-Cola as their national and international benefits executive and as a
human relations executive for Source International, Inc. While at Source he
was given the assignment of CEO of the fledgling Mail Box Ect Company. Under
his command the company grew from 15 to 300 stores across America within six
months.
He graduated from DePauw University and went on to get his masters degree in
economics from the University of Chicago.
He was a child prodigy. He started playing the piano at 3 years old. At 12
he graduated from the Chicago Conservatory of Music. He lost himself in the
creativity of music inspired by God. His ability to play jazz, classical,
christian and contemporary gave happiness to all who he blessed with his
music. No one ever played a more beautiful Ebb Tide and Autumn Leaves.
He was first called to be a pastor during his senior year at Northwestern
Military Academy. He rededicated his life in 1982 at Grace Church, Chicago,
Ill., and studied and became a minister of healing for the Lord Jesus Christ
in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He came to Las Vegas in 1997 and was ordained pastor
by Pastor Dennis Walker of Harvest Rock Church. Upon moving to Kooskia in
June of 1999, he pastored Kooskia Harvest Rock Church Home Fellowship.
Celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the
Continental Evangelical Free Church, 408 North College, Grangeville. Pastor
Brent Ewing will officiate. A gathering of friends will be held in the
church's educational unit immediately following the service. Flowers can be
sent to Continental Evangelical Free Church. His ashes will be spread by
family members on the side of his special road Sunday morning.

Edna May Overman, 92

Edna May Overman, 92, a longtime resident of Grangeville, passed away at the Idaho County Nursing Home on Sunday, January 23, 2005.
She was born near Twin Falls, Idaho on June 11, 1912 to Dora (Ausink) Terpstra and John Terpstra. She married Morris Overman on November 10, 1935 in Beverly Hills, California. He passed away January 3, 1977.
Edna enjoyed children and travel, although she seldom found anything more beautiful than Idaho. She is survived locally by a niece, Rose Rae and husband, Jim, of Grangeville, a great-niece, Kathy Ackerman and family, Bob, Kristen and Alex, of Grangeville, a great-nephew, Ben Rae of Rathdrum and several nieces and nephews living out of state.
At Edna’s request, there will be no memorial service, although anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution may donate to the Idaho Commission for the Blind.

Marietta Owens, 76










GRANGEVILLE: Marietta Owens, 76 of Grangeville passed away Sunday, January 23, 2005 at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane.

Marietta was born December 18, 1928 at Grangeville a daughter of W.B. and Belva Terwillegar Huffman. She attended schools in Grangeville graduating from Grangeville High School in 1947. She married Harry Owens on December 7, 1947 at Grangeville. They moved to Lewiston for a short time before returning to Grangeville. In 1951 they moved to Texas and lived in Florida and Georgia while Harry served in the military. Following Harry’s discharge from duty in 1955 they returned to Grangeville where she went to work at the Idaho County Courthouse in the Auditors office. She retired as chief deputy assessor for Idaho County in 1993.

She was a member of the Grangeville Christian Church and served as choir director for many years. She was also a member of the Malac Temple, Daughters of the Nile at Lewiston and the Mizpah Rebekah Lodge at Grangeville. She also belonged to the Mt. Queen Chapter No. 11 Order of Eastern Star at Grangeville. She held most local offices and several state offices for these organizations. She also did volunteer in the Grangeville area having volunteered her time at Syringa General Hospital, Camp Fire Girls, Boy Scouts and Jobs Daughters. She also sang with the Camas Choristers.

She liked to sing, shop, square dance, pick huckleberries and especially liked to spend time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Harry at the family home in Grangeville. Her children, Mike Owens of Grangeville, Sandi and Richard Wheeling of Boise, Leann Owens and Kurt Spracher of Idaho Falls, ID, her brother, Wayne and Clarissa Huffman of Grangeville, grandchildren, Sarah Owens, Dylan Owens, Jeremy Yuill, Jamie Spracher, J.C. Spracher, Jeff Spracher, Tyler Wheeling, Laura Wheeling and Ryan Wheeling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Randy, and two sisters, Wanda Miller and Willetta Welker.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Grangeville Christian Church with Pastor Harold Gott officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery, Grangeville. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville. Gertrude M. Baune, 82








GRANGEVILLE: Gertrude M. Baune, 82, of Grangeville passed away Monday, January 10, 2005 at the Idaho County Nursing Home, in Grangeville.

Gertrude was born December 11, 1922 at Cottonwood, Idaho a daughter of John and Mary Brookhaus Wemhoff. She attended school in Cottonwood graduating from St. Gertrude’s Acadamy. She married Cornelius Baune on April 30, 1946 at Cottonwood. They farmed near Grangeville until their retirement in 1984. Mr. Baune passed away in 1994.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Grangeville.

She is survived by her sons, Mark Baune of Grangeville, and Ken Baune of Federal Way, WA, her daughters, Karen Rowe of Battle Creek, MI and Janet Fellis of Troutdale, Oregon ten grandchildren, her sisters, Caroline Frei of Grangeville, Helen Romaine of Veradale, Washington Agnes Scharnhorst of Cottonwood and Dorothy Schmidt of Cottonwood.

In addition to her husband, her parents, five brothers, Lawrence Wemhoff, Lee Wemhoff, William Wemhoff, Frank Wemhoff and August Wemhoff, and a sister Margaret Arnzen died earlier.

A rosary service will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Grangeville. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Grangeville. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery, Grangeville. Marion J. DeHaas, 76








GRANGEVILLE: Marion J. DeHaas 76, of Grangeville passed away Sunday, January 9, 2005 at his home.

Marion was born March 8, 1928 at Grangeville, a son of William and Clara Workman DeHaas. He attended schools in Grangeville before entering the United States Army in 1950. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956. He married Frieda Eshuis on June 18, 1958. Together they ran their family farm until 1988 when he went to work as a crop insurance adjuster until 2001 when he retired to care for his wife. Frieda passed away in May of 2001.

Marion was known to be a man of integrity with a kind, caring and generous heart. He excelled in whatever job or hobby he did. It was evident that he put his whole heart into all of his work. After retiring, he enjoyed cabinet making, woodworking and home projects. He also liked to ski, golf and play with his dogs.

He attended the Christian Reformed Church most of his life, before becoming an active member of the Grangeville Christian Church.

Marion is survived by his son, James and DeeAnne DeHaas of Spokane, his daughters, Nancy and Marc Dunn of Huntsville, Alabama and Patricia and Larry Reynolds of Grangeville, his grandchildren, Cody, Benjamin, Samuel, Bailey, Chelsea and Lindsey. His mother, Clara DeHaas of Grangeville, his brothers, John DeHaas, Frank DeHaas, Don DeHaas, Bernard DeHaas, Gary DeHaas and Robert DeHaas all of Grangeville, his sister Sharon Hogaboam of Connell, WA.

In addition to his wife, his father, a brother Richard and two sisters, Betty and Patricia passed away earlier.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 13th at 10:00 a.m. at the Grangeville Christian Church with Pastor Harold Gott officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery, Grangeville.
