Pearl Stanbery, 97

Jessie Pearl Stanbery, 97, of Kamiah, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at Orchards Rehab and Care Center in Lewiston.

Pearl was born December 27, 1908 to Austin and Hilda Gorsuch on a farm near the Lamb School in Idaho County. After Pearl, six brothers joined the family, John Wesley, Austin Blaine, Norman Kenneth, Stanley Eugene, Howard Lee, and Robert Verl.

Pearl attended Lamb Elementary School and Kooskia High School. Due to her mother’s illness, she quit high school and took care of the younger brothers. She married Ernest “Tuke” Stanbery on March 4, 1934 and they raised two children, Phyllis and David. They lived on the Tramway place above Kooskia, on a farm near Winona, and in Kamiah.

Pearl was very active in the Kamiah Rebekah Lodge, Kamiah Presbyterian Church, Kamiah Senior Citizens and volunteered for a time at the Chamber Visitor Center. Pearl will be remembered by friends for her love of card games and for the times she took care of children and cared for friends and family.

Pearl is survived by brothers Norman Kenneth Gorsuch, Howard Lee Gorsuch and wife Brea, Robert Verl Gorsuch and wife Doris; sister in law Velda Fairbanks; brother in law Orin Reid; daughter in law Sally Stanbery; daughter Phyllis Bovey and her husband Richard; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kamiah Community Presbyterian Church, at the corner of 7th Street and Hill in Kamiah with Reverend Luann Howard officiating. Viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the services at Kamiah Cemetery.

Jimmy Joe Wisenor, 67

Joseph James (Jimmy Joe) Wisenor, 67, of White Bird, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2006 at his home on Slate Creek due to a lengthy bout with cancer.

Jim was born January 8, 1939 in Cottonwood, Idaho, a son of Jessie (Killgore) Wisenor and Melvin H. (Joe) Wisenor. He attended grade school in White Bird and graduated high school in Riggins in 1957. After high school, Jim worked on the Brownlee Dam construction.

He married Josephine Lindsey on August 21, 1960 and they had one son, Melvin James. Jim and Josephine divorced in 1971. He later married Jeanette (Penny) Maynard and they divorced in 2003.

Jim was a lover of guns and motorcycles and always an avid trap shooter. Jim was one of the very shooters qualified to shoot the League of Nations in Mexico City in 1967.

Jim served in the National Guard and was called to active service in the Army from 1961 to 1963.

He is survived by his mother, Jessie Wisenor of Riggins; one sister, Glory Ward of Colville, Washington; one son, Melvin Wisenor of Kuna, Idaho; one grand daughter, Amanda Wisenor of Kuna; his long time companion, Penny, at the home; five step-sons, Mike Maynard of Filer, Idaho, Larry Maynard of Hailey, Idaho, Kenny Maynard of White Bird, Patrick Maynard of Grangeville, and Thomas Maynard of Rathdrum, Idaho; and one foster daughter, Kim Sohrakoff.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2006 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in White Bird. Cremation will follow the services.

Marsha L. Lasater, 57

ELK CITY: Marsha Lynn Lasater, 57, of Elk City, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

Marsha was born March 13, 1949 at San Diego, California a daughter of Robert and Betty Hayes Heitzman. She attended school in Ramona, California and graduated from Ramona High School. She married Michael Pope and they later divorced. She moved to Redding, California where she was a professional seamstress. She moved to Elk City in 1999 where she has lived since.

She enjoyed taking care of her horses, visiting with her many friends and her grandchildren. She was a member of the Dust Devil’s ATV Club in Elk City.

She is survived by her loving companion, Jeff Maxwell of Elk City, her two daughters, Tori Peltier of Anderson, CA and Marli Pope of Concord, CA, her mother, Betty Heitzman of Germantown, Maryland, brothers, Robbie Heitzman of Lewiston, Tim Heitzman of Elk City, John Heitzman of Las Vegas, NV, her sister Kathy Hautsch of Germantown, Maryland and her four grandchildren, Shane, Erika, Alex and Ariston. She was preceded in death by her father Robert Heitzman.

Vera V. Turner, 95

GRANGEVILLE: Vera V. Turner, 95, of Grangeville passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Vera was born January 18, 1911 at Winona, Idaho a daughter of John L. and Nannie Pfannebecker Lamb. She attended grade school at Hopewell and graduated from Grangeville High School. She then attended Kinman Business School in Spokane. She returned to the Grangeville area and married Roy Turner in October of 1930. They farmed and ranched in the Grangeville area for many years. Ray passed away in April of 1975.

She enjoyed crocheting, writing family history stories, making quilts and afghans and was very comfortable on the back of a horse. She was a member of the Grangeville Christian Church and was a volunteer for several years at the Idaho County Nursing Home. She also belonged to a local ladies sewing club.

She is survived by her children, Marie and Bill Lotze of Colville, WA, Danny and Barbara Turner of Grangeville and Daryl and Judy Turner also of Grangeville, her grand children, Debbie Crabtree, Merrit Crabtree, Dina Marie Reynolds, Jeff Turner, Michael Turner and Paul Turner, 7 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, a sister, Louise Turner of Kamiah and a brother Ralph Lamb of Grangeville. In addition to her husband, three brothers, Volney Lamb, Lester Lamb and John D. Lamb died earlier.

A graveside service will be held Monday, October 9, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Prairie View Cemetery in Grangeville. Pastor Harold Gott of the Grangeville Christian Church will officiate. Services are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville.

Evelyn Sarbacher, 85

GRANGEVILLE: Evelyn Sarbacher, 85, of Grangeville, passed away Monday, October 2, 2006 at the Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family.

Evelyn was born February 6, 1921 at Greencreek, Idaho a daughter of Henry F. and Cathryn Beckman Nuxoll. She attended St. Anthony’s grade school and graduated as Valedictorian from high school in 1939. Following high school she moved to Cottonwood where she worked at H & H Grocery.

She married the love of her life, Ray Sarbacher, on May 7, 1946. Ray passed away in February 2003.

Evelyn worked for 25 years as assistant treasurer for Pine Tree Community Credit Union while raising her five children. She was very active in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and School. She was a co-founder of Jenta Industries and helped make over 54,000 Love Puppies at give to children who had to spend time in the hospital. She also made beautiful hand quilted blanket and afghans for the Wishing Star Foundation. She was honored as volunteer of the year by Wishing Star Foundation and her “blankies” were on display at the Coeur d’Alene Resort prior to being distributed to the hospitals. She also made over 500 hand crocheted pot holders. The pot holders were sold at Pine Tree Credit Union and the money was donated to the Children’s Miracle Network. One of her proudest moments was walking a survivors lap at the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

Evelyn loved camping with her extended family and fishing at Winchester Lake.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Sarbacher and Gary Sarbacher both of Grangeville, three daughters, Carolyn and Bob Haning of Grangeville, Diane Rowland of Post Falls and Darlene Sarbacher and Mark Brooks of Clarkston. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Tami and Charles Quick of Grangeville, Jill Wagner of Moscow and Jessica Rowland of Post Falls, one great grandson, Anthony Quick of Grangeville and on great grand daughter, Beth and Mike McGowan of Nezperce and a great great granddaughter Shalynn McGowan of Nezperce. Two brothers, Theodore Nuxoll and Eugene Nuxoll both of Grangeville and a sister Winifred Johnston of Grangeville survive her.

In addition to her husband, her parents, three sisters Victoria Sonnen, Esther Westhoff and Louise “Dolly” Mager, two brothers, Clarence Nuxoll and Andrew Nuxoll and two grandchildren, Bryan and Jennifer Haning died earlier.

A rosary will be held Friday, October 6, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Grangeville. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. also at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Brad Neely as celebrant. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery in Grangeville. Services are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville.

Prudence P. Abel, 79

Prudence P. Abel, of Grangeville, died quietly on Wednesday, Sept 27, 2006 in Grangeville at the age of 79.

She was born in Vinita, Oklahoma as Prudence P. Williams to Meredith & Lutie Williams and was raised in Nowata, Oklahoma on a farm east of town. Her grandfather, Julius Payne, was the Chief of Police in Nowata for many years.

She married Shelly Sudderth in 1944 and joined the family of Shell & Pricilla Sudderth who were long time residence of Nowata. Shelly and Prudy raised their children in Nowata and later in Dallas, Texas. Shelly was killed in an airplane accident at an age of 36 and Prudy moved to St. Louis with her mother and sister. She met Paul Abel and was remarried in 1966. She spent many wonderful years with Paul in St Louis and later in Claremore, Oklahoma near her son. Paul died in 1993 and she moved to Grangeville, Idaho with her daughter and her husband where she spent her last years.

Prudence is survived by her daughter & husband Jeanne & Bruce Howard of Grangeville, ID; son & wife Jerry & Cheryl Sudderth, Owasso, OK; grandchildren and families Laura & Mike Stanfill of Lake Jackson, TX, Shelley & Chris Leinster and Shawn & Tara Howard, Denver, CO and great grandchildren Mitchell, Samantha, Ashley & Katie.

Private family services were held on Sunday, October 1, 2006. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville.
